HOME REFRESH | ENTRY WALL
You may have caught a glimpse of this project in my last post, but if you didn’t here you go! As previously mentioned we were renting this perfectly fine home, but once we bought it, it was time to put our mark on it! Since this entry hallway was one of the first things guest saw, I not only wanted it to be welcoming and aesthetically pleasing, but also functional as well. The prior owners had installed two seperate coat hook rails on the wall, and while they were usable, they just weren’t what I had in mind. I had a very clear vision of a batten board design on this wall with a custom look and feel to it, along with plenty of hooks to still catch coats and purses as guests came in so they weren’t tossed all over the place.
The hardest part of this project: Finding the right kind of wood for the job. Simple enough, but since it was our first go at it we didn’t get the right kind so had to make the MDF stuff we got work.
Best part of this project: It’s a huge accomplishment that can be done in a short amount of time. Think: Weekend. Project.
Once the wall was ready I painted it a fresh neutral shade to blend in with the half bath behind E and the paint I was putting on the walls of our laundry room. Multi-taksing at it’s finest. E got started on the Batten Board design I had in mind and had that finished within a couple of hours. He didn’t like how unfinished the top of the rail was so he even adding a finishing touch of a quarter round. Perfect. Hooks were ordered from Amazon and I chose an oil rubbed bronze to match the rest of the finishings we were doing throughout the house.
I absolutely love it, so simple, yet so necessary in a high traffic area. I can’t wait to work on this design again, maybe even on a larger wall. E would love me for that!
